There are moments when life feels too big to manage—when the plans we made crumble, when the diagnosis shakes us, when the future looks nothing like what we hoped. In those moments, we usually reach for control, trying to grip tighter, plan harder or fix faster. But David points us to a different way. He prays, “Into your hands I commit my spirit.”

It’s not a casual prayer. It’s a surrender. And surrender is scary, because it feels like losing. But in God’s economy, surrender is where peace begins. When we place our spirit, our circumstances and our future into His hands, we aren’t giving up—we’re giving over. We’re choosing to trust that His hands are stronger, steadier and more faithful than ours will ever be.

This verse is echoed by Jesus on the cross. With His final breath, He entrusted Himself completely to the Father. And that same invitation is extended to us every day: to release what we cannot hold and to rest in the safety of God’s grip.

Think about what you’ve been trying to manage on your own—maybe it’s a burden for your family, a financial weight or a quiet fear you don’t talk about. What would it look like to pray David’s words for yourself? To say, “Lord, it’s Yours. I trust You with this”?

You don’t have to keep carrying it alone. God’s hands are not only strong enough to hold you—they are gentle enough to never let you go.
