Scripture
“And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’)” Mark 15:34 (NIV)

One of the most painful things a person can face is dealing with the aftermath of abandonment. The loss. The grief. The emotional toll it takes on us. It can fester into anger, fear and sometimes guilt. The toxicity of being rejected can build to a boiling point where hearts harden, poison seeps in and forgiveness is impossible to fathom. You’re not the only one who knows the true pain of feeling discarded.

Jesus cried out to God on the cross, in the most excruciating moments before His death, asking why. Why would His Father—God—forsake Him? When Jesus needed His Father most, He felt deserted. Yet God was there in the shadow of a cross as His Son paid the price so we may live. Whether a friendship has withered, a marriage has taken a disastrous course or a parent has never been present in your life, Jesus knows the hurt that abounds within you because He experienced it too.

Pray for your hurt to lead you towards forgiveness. Walk in faith knowing God is bigger than earthly woes. Ask the Holy Spirit to dwell in your heart and root out unforgiveness and bitterness. Most importantly, know that you are never alone.
