We’re all looking for ways to wash away the day’s worries. Stress isn’t a sign of good health: it inhibits it.
There was a piece written by a counselor who reported that those who spent time in prayer had steady cortisol levels—a stress hormone in the body—which means less tension in the body. What a unique creation we are: the more we talk with God about what blesses us, the less there is that stresses us.
That’s the thing about thankful conversations with God. When we focus our energy on what we’re grateful for, there is less room for anxiety and fear to root. Paul knew our problems in life never simply vanish just because we walk with Jesus. Encountering difficulties and struggles does not mean our faith has floundered either. Paul spent so much of his time teaching God’s love while on the run, in chains and surrounded by death and difficulties. And yet, this man was thankful beyond measure.
Being alert over our souls and the meditations of our hearts keeps us from being estranged from God. Remember, He never wanders from us. We’re the sheep that leave the pasture for something tempting and pleasing to the eye. Friends, that’s why we must pray without ceasing and devote ourselves to conversations with our Father. God’s always ready to listen. Nothing you could bring to Him is too small or impossible. That’s why we should not only devote ourselves to Him in prayer but in all things––always.
