Scripture
11My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” Proverbs 3:11-12 (NIV)

Remember when you were a child–when you’d get in trouble for eating too much candy? We didn’t quite understand why it was bad to eat a lot of candy. Now that we’re older we know that it can make us sick, but as a child, all that went through our heads was, “Mmmm, chocolate.”

We do the same as children of God. We have a limited, “childlike” view of the world around us. But God is a wise Father, full of more knowledge than we can begin to imagine. When it feels like He is punishing or withholding from us, perhaps we can’t see the whole picture, just like when a father tells his son he can’t eat any more candy.

Sister, it can be discouraging to feel like you are being punished, or even forsaken by our Father. Remember that our vision into the mysteries of the universe is clouded. God knows exactly what you need when you need it. Even when you don’t see it, He is working to make all things good for you. Somewhere in the background, just out of your sight, He is toiling away on something for you. And, my friend, even then it can be hard to have faith. But recall the work that Jesus has done. The greatest gift of all has already been given to you, so let this difficult moment in your life be put into perspective a small moment in time, a passing feeling that will fade soon enough.
