Scripture
“‘Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’ 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ 38 Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 2:36-38 (NIV)

They killed their saving grace. The one God sent down for their redemption had been murdered by their own hand. How would they ever be redeemed in the eyes of God? How would they ever mend this broken relationship?

Through repentance. Through a relationship with God. Through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Broken relationships break our hearts. Feeling estranged from loved ones is lonely. Feeling betrayed by the ones you trust is painful. But a broken relationship with our Heavenly Father? It cuts deep into our hearts. It makes us feel like there is no mending what we’ve broken.

But in this verse, Peter doesn’t say we’re all doomed for an eternity away from our Father. He shares the good news. That in His death, Christ provides freedom for the guilty, grace for sinners and peace for the brokenhearted.

So if you feel far from your Heavenly Father, there’s an easy way to make amends: repent. Ask for forgiveness from God. Seek Christ and find forgiveness for your sins and a path to a place where there is no more pain. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and feel close to Him once again.

There is mending. There is healing. There is Jesus.
