When Ruth’s husband died, she made the decision—albeit a difficult one—to remain with her mother-in-law, Naomi. She could have returned to her people, but Ruth, a Moabite, traveled with Naomi to Bethlehem to settle in. This place was very different from what Ruth knew. Yet she chose to be comfortable with being uncomfortable for the sake of family. Little did Ruth know what was waiting for her down the road when she chose not only Naomi, but also Naomi’s God—the God of all.
Ruth found love again with a man named Boaz. She would become the great-grandmother to King David, founding her family in a lineage that leads us to Jesus.
You may wonder why you’re currently headed in a certain direction. You know God is leading you, yet you aren’t sure where or why. When you find yourself in this place, remember Ruth, who was obedient and willing to follow God for a purpose bigger than she could have ever dreamed herself.
