Scripture
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 (NIV)

We have been set free by the Son. When Christ went to the cross, we were freed from the chains of sin. Sister, we are free indeed. It seems redundant to phrase it like that doesn’t it? If the Son sets you free, you are free… It feels like it would be self explanatory, so why is it so explicitly laid out in scripture? Why does Jesus take the time to explain it this way?

Because it is that important. This is exactly what Jesus came to do. Jesus Christ’s sacrifice liberates us, and He wants there to be no confusion or misunderstanding of what that means. He is emphasizing the weight of what freedom means. It’s not merely a release from physical or earthly chains but a liberation from the power of sin and its consequences. It emphasizes that through faith in Christ, we are set free from the bondage of sin, guilt and eternal separation from God. It is a proclamation of the transformative power of Jesus’ sacrifice and a promise of genuine freedom and liberation for all who choose to follow Him.
