Scripture
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

It can be easy to feel as though your prayers are falling on deaf ears. Whether it’s a new job you desperately want, a budget-busting but adorable jacket you have your eye on or a patience-testing experience you’re praying will end, our desires can become so strong they overwhelm our conscience. So, why does it feel like God can’t hear us when we ask Him for what our hearts truly want?

God hears every request we make. The difference is He grants those wants and dreams with what aligns with His plan for our lives. Material goods and easy paths do not better pave the way for our entry into Heaven, rather the journeys we endure and the Godly decisions we make help define us in His eyes and to those that know us. The best part: God guards our hearts and minds in the midst of it all because we never walk the road alone.

Rather than worrying about your desires or hopes being fulfilled or ignored, focus your energy on praise and prayer. Rejoice and give thanks for the requests that God grants rather than dwell on those that went unsatisfied. Perhaps not answering your prayers isn’t even a “no” from God but rather a “not yet.” Remember, there’s a reason that patience is referred to as a virtue.
