Can you imagine being able to get a good night’s sleep if your life was in peril? It’s hard enough to doze off when your to-do list is a mile long, right? David seemed to have such a significant reliance on God that he trusted Him to keep him safe and counted on God to give him rest. You may be thinking, I’m pretty tight with the Man Upstairs, and I still can’t fall asleep, so what gives?
It’s so hard to turn over all our troubles and burdens to God. And how many times do we say we’re going to give it all to Him, yet we take back the worry and anxiety? Our lives can be crazy chaos to the point that even our schedules are sick of being overscheduled. There are so many things going on that it’s a challenge to stop our minds from swirling when our heads hit the pillow.
Here’s what we know: God holds us in His hands from sunup to sundown: every fear, worry and doubt. Every joy, delight and thanksgiving. This is why He gives us sleep: a gift from God that reminds us that we cannot do it all. We have to shut down and close up shop because we cannot be in control 24/7. That’s God’s job, not ours.
Friend, be encouraged tonight that God is involved in all of your circumstances. Let Him carry you through the night, give you peace and grant you the rest you need to take on tomorrow.
