God is so faithful, isn’t He? He promises never to leave or forsake us. He shields us from storms and reinforces our strength when we need it most. He sees obstacles and provides what we need to conquer them.
Sin existed in Paul’s world just as it does in ours today. In this chapter, Paul was teaching about deception. He was warning readers to be on the lookout for those who would exalt themselves above God or even proclaim to be God. Our Lord is greater than any false prophet could ever hope to be. He equips and guards the faithful against anything that tries to tempt us into actions far from what is holy and acceptable in God’s eyes.
Lawlessness has always been a facet of our world. We are human beings programmed to go our own way and are not immune to temptation. Yet we also seem to seek something bigger than ourselves to believe in. Although people are inconsistent and often fail one another, God is always true to His word. Have confidence in the only trustworthy God. He sustains those who love Him. He keeps His promises—always.
The scriptures tell us we are in a spiritual war: one we cannot always see. Anything that feels unlike what we know God to be and embody is a sign to steer clear. However, never forget that God is stronger than the enemy could ever hope to be. He’s already given us victory over evil through His son, Jesus.
