Scripture
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” Hebrews 13:15 (NIV)

Is giving praise a sacrifice? Singing a hymn or other worship song–lifting those melodies and lyrics to the Lord–are those sacrifices? Sister, it may not always feel like a sacrifice or a challenge to bring praise to the Lord, however, there are times when we don’t want to praise God.

It may be hard to admit, but when life is hard, we often begin to darken our world and push God out. Those times when you begin to feel bitter when someone is so excited to praise Jesus in worship. It’s natural for you to feel these things, but don’t let it shut you out from God. Even when you are not happy with Him, find it in you to take a small sacrifice, and praise Him.

My friend, when our hearts begin to deceive us, God gives us the gift of praise and worship not just to glorify Him selfishly, but as a way to remind ourselves of His almighty glory. Making a sacrifice to push through our dark, clouded emotions can help remind us that even in what we are feeling, there is grace. Even in our darkest moments, there is mercy. Even in our furthest stance from God, there is love. Beloved, when you feel distant from God, praise Him with the simple truths you know to be true, and let them flow through your whole heart and soul as you shout them!
