Scripture
22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)

Have you ever cleaned your closet or kitchen junk drawer and found some super-weird things?

Items that make you shake your head, laugh and wonder what you were thinking buying it or why you hung onto it for so long? It’s easy to rifle through your stuff and eliminate the old things you no longer want. But how do you do that when it takes up space in your heart and mind to become more like God?

When we follow Jesus, we are changed and begin a new life. It doesn’t mean you quit your Saturday night bowling league, but maybe you get home early to rise, shine and volunteer at church the following day. You don’t have to go cold turkey and ditch grabbing a fancy coffee on the way to work. Perhaps it becomes a Monday and Friday treat, and you donate the extra money to missions building water wells.

This transformation of heart and mind leaves us thinking a little more like Jesus and less like our former selves as we draw nearer to Him. We begin to put away the old version of ourselves and become an even better one. Changing the way you think about things can lead to a beautiful new outlook with God. It won’t happen overnight, and it will look different for each one of us as we represent Jesus in different ways.
