Students are often stressed: projects, finals, extracurriculars and fitting in can be all-consuming. Don’t forget the pressure of people asking, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” And then there’s the fear of forgetting your locker combination or not landing the seat you want in the cafeteria. For many of us, we can easily tap into those anxiety-riddled memories like they happened yesterday.
It’s hard to see into the future when you’re still trying to figure out who you are in your youth. As an adult, it’s not always easy either. Our passions change. Our focus changes. Our circumstances change. We change. Finding peace amid trying times is challenging yet not impossible with God.
The sirens and stressors in our world try to detract, overwhelm and take our eyes off our Father. After all, we are human. When the going gets tough, we get busy problem-solving. It’s natural to want to take the reins to make pain and problems go away. Yet, no matter how hard we try, we don’t run the show: God does.
So, when your student comes home stressed, you can’t take another helping of bad news or life feels like a pressure cooker, take heart, friend. Worrying about whatever ails you––from final exams to fears of tomorrow––doesn’t have to have you in its grip. When you put your faith fully in Him, you will receive peace beyond your comprehension. It’s there for the taking. All you have to do is let go and let God do His thing!
