Accepting corrections is no easy task. Admitting faults, taking responsibility for mistakes and repenting sins can feel like you’re accepting failure. But it’s time to reframe the concern of our friends and our Father as something we can embrace.
The Bible is full of instruction. It teaches us right from wrong. It tells us how to find forgiveness. It sets a path toward a more obedient life. When we read the passages, we may feel the conviction on the page, but it doesn’t sting quite as harshly as when critiques come from the lips of someone we love.
Have you ever had a pastor, trusted friend or faithful family member remind you of a Bible verse that says what you’re doing is wrong?
Proverbs 19:5 says, “A false witness will not go unpunished.”
Remember, James says those who know right but do wrong are committing a sin against God.
Yeah, we know the “You messed up” scriptures. So why do those words from a loved one hurt more than the words written in God’s word? Because we feel called out. We feel like a failure. We feel shame. But those who turn from instruction and let these feelings keep them from correcting their path are straying from the knowledge of God.
So, the next time someone lovingly tells you the path you’re on may not be the path God intends for your life, accept their instruction and correct your course. You’ll be on the road to knowing God and living for His purpose.
