Scripture
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34 (NIV)

Buried treasure. The “X” on your map. The place where your fortunes lie. You would protect it at all costs, right? You’d invest in every security camera and motion sensor needed to keep it safe. You may even set up camp next to it, channeling all your focus toward protecting your treasure.

So what is in that buried treasure chest? Your career? Your appearance? Your literal fortunes? Whatever holds your attention also holds your heart. So, if that treasure is sucking your energy and stealing your focus, what is left for God?

When we treasure our heavenly destiny, our heart will be focused on following God’s commandments on Earth and waiting for the day our soul is reunited with Him—a true treasure. But if we’re focused on worldly things, our heart will break with every disappointment this life deals out and long for something more purpose-driven.

Reevaluate where your treasure lies. Is it buried in the sand or protected upon the rock? Is it anchored in a temporary world or aspiring for a heavenly eternity? Because for where it is, there your heart will be also.
