Scripture
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives...” Colossians 1:9 (NIV)

Have you ever had one of those moments when someone, something or some situation pops into your mind?

A long-lost friend.

Your child’s teacher.

A news story you can’t forget.

The moment someone or something enters your mind, it’s for a reason. You may not know why, yet God does. When your day is hectic, it may be bedtime before you realize that you meant to reach out to that certain someone but never did. You wanted to call or send a quick text but were overcome by other things. It happens to us all. But there is something we can make time for in our day.

Prayer.

Sometimes it’s a quick offering. While throwing a load of towels into the dryer or unloading groceries, we can pray for our neighbor fighting cancer, our best friend’s son or the family member you have a strained relationship with. If you feel the need to pause and have a serious heart-to-heart with God, do that. Find a place of solitude and spend some much needed time alone with Him.

There’s power in prayer. It’s not always important to know why the sudden urge to intercede for someone hits us. God knows. And that’s what it boils down to in the verse above. That no matter what—no matter what—our prayer for another should be that they are filled with God’s wisdom, knowledge and understanding so His will can be done.
