Scripture
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5 (NIV)

Through the generations, we leave behind an inheritance for our children, grandchildren and so on. From a set of china to a handmade quilt, there are gifts we give that mean so much to our family.

In the verse above, Paul is writing about the impression Timothy’s mother and grandmother made in his spiritual life. Lois, Timothy’s grandmother, had faith in God. Timothy’s mother, Eunice, carried on that tradition to her son. This lineage of faith was fostered through the generations of Timothy’s maternal line.

Sisters, listen.

We are one of the biggest influences our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members will ever know in their lives. What they see us do, what they hear from our lips, what we instill into their hearts is eternal. We’re given stewardship of these sweet human beings by God. They are not ours but on loan to love from our Heavenly Father. Make the most of each teachable moment, and breathe the love of God into their hearts. We can shape generations and give our extended family an inheritance like no other—the kingdom of heaven. What better legacy is there?
