Scripture
“About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.” Luke 9:28-31 (NIV)

Can you imagine? One minute you’re hanging out with Jesus, helping Him feed thousands of people with five loaves of bread and two tiny fish. The next minute, you’re seeing Him in all of His glory, chatting not only with Moses but Elijah too. Talk about a mic drop moment!

The Transfiguration. An event unlike anything Peter, John and James—or anyone, really—had ever seen before. Witnessing Jesus change into something ethereal. His entire body became celestial before their very eyes. Then Moses and Elijah appeared in the same form and engaged in conversation with Him.

But wait, there’s more!

Before it’s all over God speaks to them from the skies above. He informs the three that Jesus is God’s Son, and they should listen to what He has to say. Probably not a problem after what they witnessed. They were all in.

We may never witness such a sight nor physically meet God and His prophets on a mountaintop. But we can see His glorious works all around us. Look for them today. In the beauty of a sunrise. In the sound of a baby’s laughter. When the world attempts to break you, remain transformed by the renewing of your mind through Christ Jesus.
