Scripture
“Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.” Job 7:11 (NIV)

This expression of deep anguish and the refusal to remain silent in his suffering is incredibly powerful. Job is in a place of great pain and confusion, and his words echo the feelings we might experience in our darkest times. His honesty in expressing his pain is a stark reminder that it’s okay to voice our struggles.

We learn from Job here the importance of being true to our emotions and bringing our entire selves—our pain, our questions and our frustrations—before God. It’s not about complaining for the sake of complaining but about seeking understanding and expressing our true feelings in our relationship with God. This may feel familiar, similar to what we learned from Job in the previous chapter. But that’s why it’s all the more important!

In our own lives, when we face situations that leave us bitter or broken, let’s remember it’s healthy and necessary to acknowledge these feelings. It’s okay to have moments of questioning and to express our anguish. God hears us, understands us and stays with us through these trials.

Today, let’s permit ourselves to speak openly about our struggles, whether in prayer, through journaling or in conversation with a trusted friend or confidant. Let’s embrace the therapeutic power of expressing our innermost feelings.

It may take some time to feel, but you are not alone in your journey. In our honesty and vulnerability, we draw closer to God and find strength and comfort in His unending love.
