When life is good, we’re pretty cheerful. We find delight in the little things. The lucky penny we discover in a parking lot can bring the same warmth as snuggling a wiggly puppy. And then there’s the bigger moments. The relief that floods your soul with good news from your doctor or the thrill of learning your best friend is coming to town for a visit. These are definitely not times we crave to be comforted, for happiness has already found us.
Comfort is one of the greatest gifts we can receive from God—relief poured down from our Heavenly Father. Delivered with love, it picks us up when our emotions or current situation take their toll. Yet it’s not something automatically dispensed at the drop of a tear or the ache of our heart. Yes, devastation can be the heaviest weight to bear. No one knows more about bearing the weight of the world on their shoulders than Jesus. He paid it all so that we might live.
In the darkest of shadows, we must be willing to receive God’s grace and mercy. We must seek out the abundance of love He waits to bestow upon us. It’s a partnership with God. One that begins when you ask Him to mend the frayed edges of your heart. Remember, there may be pain in the night, but that sweet joy and peace will arrive in the morning.
